DHS suggests outlawing rootkits

Here’s an interesting article. Apparently, hot on the heels of the Sony BMG Music nightmare, an official with Homeland Security has suggested that rootkits should be outlawed.

“The recent Sony experience shows us that we need to be thinking about how we ensure that consumers are not surprised by what their software programs do,” Jonathan Frenkel, director of law enforcement policy at the U.S Department of Homeland Security

Glad to see that DHS is on the leading edge of the security industry… sigh
