The rumour mill is in full flight.
The Vista back door story originated at the BBC, with a report claiming that Professor Ross Anderson was urging the government “to look at establishing ‘back door’ ways of getting around encryptions”
UK officials are talking to Microsoft over fears the new version of Windows could make it harder for police to read suspects’ computer files.
However, the version of Microsoft’s forthcoming operating system is quite accessible using such programs as Guidance Software’s EnCase product set. The fear of backdoors being installed into the Vista operating system may seem far fetched although I seem to recall the “NSA” crypto keys in earlier versions of Windows.
