Skype kowtows to Chinese censors

Skype too has fallen by the wayside. The VoIP firm has admitted to censoring messages as part of it’s Chinese service, Tom Online. The allure of a market as large as China has companies falling over themselves to adhere to the Chinese governments wishes.

“Tom Online has implemented a text filter, which is what everyone else in that market is doing,” said [Skype CEO] Zennström.

Oh, well that makes perfect sense then. If everyone else is doing it then it must be morally sound. Google, Microsoft and Yahoo have already started playing ball and this has resulted in at least three citizens getting 10 year sentences.
