Chinese Internet Activists Challenge Censorship

A home grown challenge is underway in China. Web activists have launched a petition in response to the Chinese governments attempt to impose censorship on the people.

Beijing rights activist Chen Yongmiao, who helped organise the petition, told Reuters on Sunday he had been prompted to act by the March closure of the Aiqinhai Web site, based in the eastern province of Zhejiang, that specialised in adventurous cultural commentary.

the growing backlash has not only included activists but, operators of left wing websites as well.
