Well, the inevitable has happened. The UK has paved the way to extradite Gary McKinnon, the UFO hunting hacker. The US government claims that he caused $700,000 damage for the Pentagon and US military systems that he broke into.

McKinnon, who could face up to 70 years in jail and fines of up to $1.75 million, said he was planning to appeal against the decision, telling BBC News 24: “I am very worried and feeling very let down by my own government.”

In this post Patriot Act world any hacker is taking his life in his/her hands when they go after systems that they know full well will land them in hot water.
