FBI Charges HOPE Speaker with Witness Tampering, Obstructing Justice

Brian Krebs over at the Washington Post has obtained a copy of the complaint (pdf) that was sworn out against Steven Rambam. It turns out that his name was an alias of sorts and that the proper spelling of this last name is “Rombom”. You may recall that he was hustled out of the Hope conference by the FBI just before he was set to give a presentation.

The complaint, ~ charges Rombom with obstruction of justice and with witness tampering, alleging that in April 2006 Rombom impersonated a federal investigator at the request of a client who had hired him to locate a government informant who was central to the client’s money-laundering indictment in 2003.

Ouch. I would hazard that his problems are just going to get worse as this unravels. Be sure to read the full posting at Security Fix.

The is truly an epidemic. Companies need to be held accountable (pay fines) when they lose customer or employee data. They are not. They just think it’s a PR nightmare. How many countless breaches out there that are not being reported at all?
