Home PCs Under Increased Threat, Say Experts

I can’t help but find this article amusing. The good folks at Symantec have pressed the obvious button. According to Symantec’s internet security threat report computer criminals are targetting home users now at an increasing rate. But, to be fair I would offer that this has never really changed. We have seen home users attacked on a regular basis for years. Some examples of this type of activity we saw with good old Netbus. This allowed the black hat/script kiddies to remotely control a windows PC. Then as the distributed concept took a deeper root we saw the likes of the Sub Seven trojan. This trojan would allow the operator to control mulitple systems at once.

These are rather basic examples and the hardcore nefarious furry toothed types would use far more sophiticated methods. But, this helps to illustrate that this type of attack is really nothing new in the security space.

Slow day in security news.
