Well, I finally managed to get off my ass and upgrade to Firefox 2.0 today. I have to say I am really quite impressed with the new iteration. The pages render at a noticeably faster rate. When I upgraded from 1.5.0.8 to version 2.0 the process was almost flawless. My bookmarks and plug-ins all ported over nicely with the exception of my LinkedIn extension. Ah well, they can’t all be winners.
A welcome addition to the Firefox Browser is the anti-phishing controls. Both Firefox 2.0 and Internet Explorer have phishing protection but, it turns out that IE7 kinda missed the boat. There was a bakeoff with both browsers and Firefox managed to trounce the Remond offering. From a posting on Brian Krebs blog:
The evidence comes in a report released today by software testing firm SmartWare. The company tested each browser against the same phishing sites flagged by contributors to Phishtank, an anti-phishing network run by OpenDNS.Firefox blocked 243 phishing sites that IE7 overlooked, while IE7 blocked 117 sites that Firefox did not.
Very cool results. All in all I’m pleased with the new browser.
