I have been a fan of Symantec products for a few years now. But, of late I have noticed cracks starting to appear. Today Computerworld has an article that explains some of the problems that the yellow shop has been experiencing of late.
Cris Paden, Symantec’s manager of corporate public relations, said more information would be released in the next few weeks and called the piracy ring “humongous,” saying it represents sales of software that amounts to “eight figures.”“The problems … as far as transitioning customers through the new licensing process is minimal [compared to] what our support people would endure if they were having to deal with customers using … counterfeit versions of Backup Exec,” Paden said. “It’s a growing problem that we’re trying to head off at the pass.”
This however, doesn’t cover why Symantec support has been waning. Since the merger with Veritas a number of user have been complaining about the lower and slower levels of support that they have been experiencing. I have seen the same issues cropping up at several companies that I have friends working with.
