Litvinenko has not been dead long and you rest assured the screen play is well underway. This story has all the hallmarks of becoming one of the greatest spy stories. On his deathbed Alexander Litvinenko blamed the Russian President, Vladimir Putin for his death. This of course was rebuffed by the Russian government as utter hogwash. But, you have to ask, is it? Where there is smoke there has to be fire no?
The Russian government has been handing out the veiled threats to the Brits and refusing extradition requests. Basically doing their best impression of a scolded school boy lurking in the corner as they think about what they (allegedly) have done.
Friends of the 43-year-old have blamed the Russian security service (FSB), as Mr Litvinenko accused it of many abuses, including the bombing of several apartment blocks in Russia in 1999, which killed 300 people.
This was rubbished by many at the time but, you have to wonder. This was the bombing that was used to validate their invasion of Chechnya.
I doubt if the truth about this affair will ever come to light. This is the old school cloak and dagger crowd that makes their living on not be discovered. Nevertheless, when the movie based on the events of the story comes out…I might watch.
