Europe Exec Confirms Google Phone

Google’s attempt to slowly but surely take over the world took another step forward. News of the upcoming phone was leaked by the head of Google for Spain/Portugal that they are working on a mobile phone.

Now, if this is true, it could potentially be quite something. Imagine a phone that is linked to your Gmail, calendar, documents, RSS reader, financial information and Google Earth? Now, imagine if you will the sheer marketing potential of this intertwined mobile platform. Quite a wonderful GTD combination.

Google spokespeople in the United States have repeatedly declined to comment on rumors of a Google Phone, but the smoke has been rising lately. Earlier this month, Simeon Simeonov of Polaris Venture Partners wrote in his blog that an inside source told him the Google Phone will be a BlackBerry-like device running C++ at the core with an operating system bootstrap and optimized Java and that it would offer voice over Internet Protocol.

I can see it now, the reverse engineers will be chomping at the bit for when this device hits the market.

This news coming on the heels of the announcement that Google will be taking greater strides to ensure privacy is interesting. This further supports my notion that Google will eventually become the focal point for someone’s digital life. And when they buy Apple (my musing) it will become a a force to be reckoned with indeed.
