Hacker Sees 71,000 State Employees’ Private Data

Sigh…another government office exposes information to hackers. This time the victim is a state government site in Indiana. In addition to the 71,000 information profiles that were accessed 5,600 credit cards were exposed.

The state discovered the credit card information for 5,600 people and businesses were accessed in early February. That triggered the audit that found last week that the health care workers’ information had been accessed.

Cotterill said the information was on the Web site to allow health care providers check the credentials of workers and that the security problem had been fixed.

“We don’t expect anything more to turn up,” he said. “Part of that audit was an overview of our security controls and we’ve identified some things we’ll be doing to improve security.”
