Book: Metasploit Toolkit for Penetration Testing

When I read that Foster and Maynor were putting out a book I signed up August 6th. Then the problems started.

First there was this email from Amazon.

We wanted to let you know there’s a delay with one or more
items in the order you placed on August 06 2007 15:06 PDT
(Order# 123-1234567-1234567).

James Foster (Author), David Maynor (Author) “Metasploit Toolkit
for Penetration Testing, Exploit Development, and Vulnerability
Research” [Paperback]

That time I was told that the order would ship during the first week of September. No problem.

Then, I received this email.

Items not yet shipped:
Delivery estimate: Nov 8 2007 - Nov 9 2007

* 1 of: Metasploit Toolkit for Penetration Testing, Exploit Development, and Vulnerability Research

What’s going on? My finger is hovering over the cancel button.

Kidding.

I feel you on this one, I’ve been waiting as well. I hope the increased wait is put towards making a good, quality book. We all know how Syngress likes to push out rehashed books with different titles.

Yes, I hope you are right. I only know of David Maynor through the press but, I was fortunate enough to work with Foster a couple years ago as a client. He is a sharp cookie and I’m certain that will come across in the book. I just hope the book hasn’t been sidelined for some reason.

I agree, Syngress has turned out some crap in the past. But, there are some good ones as well. “Cross Site Scripting Attacks : XSS Exploits and Defense

An October pushback isn’t that bad. In all reality; which other metasploite book are you going to buy instead if you do cancel? I figure, I blow more money to fill up my gas tank than it costs for the book. It’s not going to kill me to wait another month. now if it turns into a year then I’ll worry about it.

HA! Yeah, if it turned into a year then I would cancel for sure.

    :D

In the meantime there is the Wikibook for Metasploit.
