This is an old post (March 2007) that I came across today on Wagerank (via Jeremiah Grossman). This think is beyond annoying as CAPTCHA go.

Bloody horrid.

Try not to look directly at it for an extended period of time. You may begin to see tracerssssssssssssssssssssss

And now, you’re responsible for my motion sickness and cleaning the vomit off of my computer. You raging bastard.

    We’ve met, right?

Actually it is a logical variation over the standard static captcha. Although I will admit that it has been carried to the extreme. Animated captcha make it impossible for OCR’s to grab the alpha numeric characters for an automated or robotic form filler.

Possibly it works better if the end user facing it has a very very slow computer. But anyone with a decent computer is going to see it displayed at that nauseating rate.

Right concept – lightyears ahead of a static or noise filled catptcha, but just a litle to overdone on the framerate
