Live In Concert

Well, we’re no Led Zeppelin, Tragically Hip or Peter Gabriel. That being said it should a great time tonight when the band that I play bass for, “The Shiitake Project” takes the stage at Clinton’s in Toronto.

We are raising money for prostate cancer research. The show gets rolling around 9 pm.

Have a great weekend all!

[UPDATE]: We blew the roof off for a full house! That and we raised over $1000 for prostate cancer research! Thanks to all who attended.

Charlton Heston Has Left The Building

From CNN:

Charlton Heston, who won the 1959 best actor Oscar as the chariot-racing “Ben-Hur” and portrayed Moses, Michelangelo, El Cid and other figures in movie epics of the ’50s and ’60s, has died. He was 84.

The actor died Saturday night at his home in Beverly Hills with his wife Lydia at his side, family spokesman Bill Powers said.

Powers declined to comment on the cause of death or provide further details.

“Charlton Heston was seen by the world as larger than life. He was known for his chiseled jaw, broad shoulders and resonating voice, and, of course, for the roles he played,” Heston’s family said in a statement. “No one could ask for a fuller life than his. No man could have given more to his family, to his profession, and to his country.”

Boots On The Ground In LA

unrelated cart image

I’m in LA and I’m struck by the contrasts here. I have been to Los Angeles before and I have never really taken the opportunity to look around.

Today I was walking along the street and I was admiring the row of cars parked on the side. Each one worth more than I make in a year. One person rolled up in a car that runs $180K. He jumped out and brushed past me into the Starbucks. I looked back to the car where I noticed that a man was walking towards me pushing a shopping cart. At first nothing in my mind said that this was different. Then I noticed that the man was pushing a cart load of empty cans. He smiled, nodded and said “afternoon sir”. I smiled and returned the pleasantry. As he walked past I turned to look as he reached into a nearby trash can and fish out empty soda cans. If not for that motion and the cart you’d never have known that he was homeless. Wearing khakis and a button down shirt, clean and put together.

Because of my assumptions, I had allowed myself to be inadvertently socially engineered. A valuable lesson relearned.

LA is a weird place that never fails to amaze me.
