Find-a-Democrat App Infringes on Privacy

Yet another app that wants to assist you in accessing all sorts of information about people that should most likely be private.
In this case that information happens to be Names, Addresses, and Political Affiliation of local democrats.

The app in iTunes called “Obama for America” allows users to open the application to a Google Map with flags on it to find like minded (right?) Democrats.
What could go wrong?

All this is public information, which campaigns have long given to volunteers. But you no longer have to schedule a visit to a field office and wait for a staffer to hand you a clipboard and a printed-out list of addresses.

With the Obama app, getting a glimpse of your neighbor’s political affiliation can take seconds.

Technically when you register to vote with your address for a certain party the information is part of the public record but did you ever think that it would be this readily available?
I can tell you where I currently reside there are probably some people “who don’t take too kindly to those Obama fans” 😛

Favorite quote from the article:

“I do think it’s something useful for them, but it’s also creepy,” said Lori Carena, 58, a long-time Brooklyn resident, when she was shown the app. “My neighbors across the street can know that I’m a Democrat. I’m not sure I like that.”

Lori isn’t sure she likes that.
How do you feel?
