So, one can only smirk if Harper and company attempt to introduce a bill in the same vein as the United States’ SOPA.

From SC Magazine AU:

Canadian government officials have been downloading copyright-protected items from file-sharing sites, according to activist researchers in the country.

The Pirate Party of Canada used youhavedownloaded.com, a Russian site that scrapes public torrents for IP addresses, to find IP addresses used by illegal downloaders.

The service, similar to those used by content owners to find copyright infringers, turned up IP addresses leased to the Canadian House of Commons.

I blew up laughing when I read that one. This is, or rather should be, very embarrassing for the law and order Conservative government. Come to think of it this is a government that loves to have it both ways. Case in point being Canadian defense ministers rather questionable practices of having military helicopters apparently at his beck and call.

It’s a shame we have to wait four years for an election.

The upside of this article is that I’m going to have a lot fun with the youhavedownloaded.com site.
