As an interesting follow up to my last post on stolen laptops the UK cops have issued a new warning. The Mafia are putting a different spin on compter fraud. The new mafia are trying to get their own people hired at firms in order to exploit companies from the inside. The insider threat is a very real problem with corporate security. So in their never ending bid so steal their way to millions they have taken to this new aspect.
“(Organized crime) has changed. You still have traditional organized crime, but now they have learned to compromise employees and contractors. (They are) new-age, maybe have computer degrees and are enterprising themselves. They have a wide circle of associates and new structures,”
The new British agency that raised the alert is called Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA). This agency was formed earlier in April taking over the reins from the National Hi-Tech Crime Unit which was absorbed by SOCA.
