In a move that really isn’t that surprising Symantec is killing some of it’s security appliances. Recently I attended the Symantec road show and I noticed the overall tone was one of storage. I was a littel surprised at the time that the Veritas purchase has taken center stage pushing out some of the core components of Symantec’s business. While the move is aimed primarily at the hardware I have the distinct impression that this is only the beginning.

The security company informed employees of the changes late last week, the representative said. About 80 people will lose their jobs as a result of the move. Symantec employs about 15,500 people worldwide.

The changes won’t have any effect on Symantec’s other security appliances, which include Symantec Mail Security (SMS), Symantec Security Information Manager (SSIM) and Symantec Network Access Control Enforcer.

Further evidence of this shift was presented when my sales rep was changed out for a former Veritas sales goober that insists on trying give me a knickname such as champ or buddy. When his finger nails grow back in I’m sure he will appreciate the error of his ways 😉
