Well, not exactly. More of a declaration of war on the contractors and the beltway bandits. Having worked alongside some contract shops in the DC area, in days gone by, it really is no surprise that some of these shops will get pwned.

From v3:

Anonymous has released data from a series of hacking attacks on military contractor Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH), including 90,000 military emails, in what it calls Military Meltdown Monday.

The group has released a 130MB file containing data, including the email addresses and unsalted MD5 password hashes of 90,000 military personnel, although it is unclear how many of these are duplicated or dead accounts. The group also claims to have taken source code from the company and a complete compressed SQLdump.

Now, with 90,000 accounts it will be little surprise that this could lead to more compromises when you take into account the propensity that people have to reuse their passwords.

I would hazard that this is going to get worse quickly.

  1. I would love to see Anonymous go after the emails of those politicians protecting the wealthy 1% of the U.S. Seems like that type of wrongdoing would be right up their alley.
