So with the saga that is the iTunes account breach the finger pointing is in full swing. It appears that PayPal has ducked any responsibility. Now, with that on the heels of Apple’s insistence that they aren’t at fault it makes me pause and wonder who in fact is responsible?

From SC Magazine UK:

He said: “We’ve looked into this extensively, and want to assure you that: 1) the PayPal system itself has not been compromised and continues to be secure; and 2) if you have been affected by this issue, the criminals behind it have not taken over or logged into your PayPal account.”

He also acknowledged that Apple has confirmed that iTunes’ servers have not been compromised. Apple has recommended customers who have seen unauthorised iTunes charges to their PayPal or credit card account to contact their financial institution about a chargeback and change their iTunes password right away.

Not Apple, not PayPal. OK then, so where’s the breach? Malware on these customer systems? Are these systems Windows only? Is there a range of systems? A host of questions come to mind.

  1. When it comes to denying problems, issues, bugs and anything else that could possibly make them look bad I can’t think of any company that does it more than Apple.
